Liverpool were in talks with Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi in January, according to Bild, and the Reds must follow up on this interest and make a move in the summer.
On Monday night, CHO tormented the West Ham defence all evening, using his pace and strength to stretch the Hammers and allow Eden Hazard to pick up dangerous positions.
The Belgian was in terrific form but it was Hudson-Odoi that I was enjoying watching the most. Making just his second Premier League start, he was playing with the maturity of a much older player.
It must be said that it is clear that he has plenty of room to improve but there are few managers in the world better suited to helping young, attacking players develop than Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp’s ability to bring the best out of Hudson-Odoi would make signing him hugely exciting as there would be little doubt over whether or not the 18-year-old could make the grade on Merseyside.
Maurizio Sarri hasn’t trusted him as much as he should have this season and Chelsea have been punished for this hesitancy.
Trent Alexander-Arnold should be a great example for CHO to follow as the Scouser has made almost 70 appearances for Liverpool and is a key member of the starting XI.
Not only would it be a smart move for Hudson-Odoi, but it would also be great for Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Neither winger has much competition to motivate them to perform at their absolute best.
Liverpool are likely to see Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge leave this summer which will mean they will be shortchanged further up the pitch.
Hudson-Odoi wouldn’t cost much much and was apparently worth around £35million in January, as per Sky Sports. Getting the winger for less than £30m would make him a stellar signing.
German news outlet Bild claimed in January that Liverpool met with CHO but a deal never materialised. Jurgen Klopp should return for the forward at the end of the season and start the summer on the right note.
