Danilo Pereira has told King Fut that Liverpool’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane won’t get past him at Anfield this evening.
Liverpool face Porto at Anfield in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League for the second season in a row. Last year, the Reds beat the Portuguese outfit 5-0 on aggregate to book their place in the quarter finals.
This season, they have the chance to go through to the semi finals by beating them.
Danilo told King Fut: “Playing against Salah, Firmino and Mane? They will not go past me! [Laughs]. That’s what I think and I give my all the best.”
Given that Mane scored three goals against Porto last season and the fact that he has been in red-hot form recently, there’s no reason why he can’t terrorise Danilo and co once again.
Salah and Firmino look to have found their form after suffering from a lack of inspiration recently.
The former has still had a terrific season but given the numbers he racked up last season, he has experienced a considerable drop-off.
It’s unlikely that many people expected him to score 44 goals again but reaching the 20-goal mark for the second successive season is impressive enough.
Liverpool will be hoping to see a repeat of their 5-0 drubbing of Porto in the first leg so that they don’t need to force the issue too strongly in the second leg.
With the Reds top of the Premier League table and making progress into the latter stages of Europe’s most elite competition, Klopp will be keen to ensure his players are as well rested as possible.
A two or three nil win will allow the German the chance to rest a couple key performers in the second leg.
