Charlie Nicholas makes Liverpool v Porto prediction

Liverpool will beat Porto 2-0, according to Sy Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas.

He told Sky Sports: “Liverpool are doing the business collectively. Everyone is saying this is a cracking draw for them.

“At Anfield they are creating a big noise at the moment and are getting results. I think this is another one of those nights and the Anfield crowd will spur them on.

“It will not be as easy as some people will think. I think a 2-0 result is a comfortable first-leg scoreline and will put them through in the end.”

Liverpool beat Porto 5-0 on aggregate last season in the Round of 16 thanks to a Sadio Mane hattrick inspired performance in Portugal.

Liverpool are in fine form at the moment and have won their last five games in all competitions, scoring an impressive 14 goals in the process.

As was the case last season against Porto, Sadio Mane will be the key man. The Senegal forward is Jurgen Klopp’s most in-form forward and has scored seven goals in his last seven games.

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino also seem to be returning to form at a crucial stage of the season, with the pair grabbing a goal and assist respectively against Southampton on Friday.

Klopp will be delighted that his forwards are beginning to show the electric form they did last season which saw them rank second in Europe on goals scored and assists only behind Mbappe, Cavani and Neymar.

If Mane, in particular, can replicate his game-winning display against Bayern Munich from the Round of 16 second leg then overcoming Porto will be light work for Liverpool.

When the former Southampton man is in the mood, he is virtually unplayable.
