Jurgen Klopp must keep faith with £48million man (BBC) Naby Keita and play James Milner at left-back when Porto visit Anfield on Tuesday night.
The Reds will look to take a step towards booking their place in the UEFA Champions League final by beating Porto in the first leg of their last eight tie with the Liga Nos giants.
Klopp will have a number of decisions to make in midfield and defence, with Andy Robertson suspended after picking up one yellow card too many.
In the Scotsman’s absence, James Milner must be played ahead of Alberto Moreno at left back. The Spaniard is a lovable character but is a shocking defender.
Conversely, Milner is a very reliable performer and is known for his big game performances at Liverpool.
The Englishman set a Champions League record last season by assisting more goals (9) in a single campaign than any other player in history.
That said, however, the man Klopp must turn to in search of game-changing creativity is Naby Keita. The Guinean scored his first goal for Liverpool against Southampton last week and will be full of confidence.
Hopefully, Klopp chooses to keep faith with Keita and hands him a second successive start. The former RB Leipzig gem has played over 85 minutes just 11 times this season and never more than twice consecutively.
It is no wonder he has been unable to truly impress this season as he has been in and out of the side.
By way of comparison, during Xherdan Shaqiri’s purple patch earlier this season, the Swiss international started and finished four games in succession and helped create eight goals in that period.
Klopp needs to start both Keita and Milner to ensure Liverpool can travel to Portugal for the second leg with a healthy advantage.
Ideal XI to face Porto at home: Alisson, Trent, van Dijk, Matip, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Mane, Firmino, Salah.
