According to a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo, 19-year-old Ruben Vinagre has caught the attention of Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool are in the market for a young left-back and the Portuguese fullback fits the bill perfectly. Alberto Moreno is set to leave the club this summer and signing Vinagre would be a fine way to replace his Spanish counterpart.
O Jogo claims that, after Liverpool lost in the FA Cup against Wolves, Jurgen Klopp asked Vinagre if he’d like to live in Liverpool. The Reds boss was impressed by his performance and expressed that to the fullback.
Andy Robertson has shown that he is the best left back in the Premier League and one of the best in Europe. Liverpool would be a terrific place for Vinagre to develop if he chose to move this summer.
Not only would Vinagre likely be affordable, his youth makes him a great investment and prospect for Klopp to work his magic with.
When Moreno arrived at Liverpool in 2014, fans thought that they had uncovered a gem but his defensive weakness quickly became an issue.
Robertson has proven to be better in both attack and defence, with his prowess limiting Moreno to just 163 minutes all season. The one issue Liverpool might run into with Vinagre is convincing him to abandon regular game time with Wolves to join them.
The youngster has played 18 times for Wolves this season and as a young player, he might feel his chances will be limited at Anfield whereas Nuno Espírito Santo has shown great faith in him.
That said, Vinagre needs to look at what Trent Alexander-Arnold has achieved at Liverpool.
Despite being just one year older, the Scouser has played almost 70 times for the Reds and is now a key member of the starting XI under Klopp.
