Liverpool are interested in Lyon striker Memphis Depay, according to the Mirror, and signing the Dutchman would reignite the fire in the Reds’ front three.
Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane haven’t been as electric as a collective this season when you compare their form with last season.
The Mirror claims that, while Mane is not for sale, Liverpool are looking at Depay just in case they are forced into selling the Senegal forward.
Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards must not wait to sell Mane before signing Depay but must act quickly and add more quality to a front three that suffers a serious drop in quality when one of them is rested.
One of the major reasons Manchester City are so formidable is the fact that they have Sane, Aguero, Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez, the two Silvas, De Bruyne and Gundogan to fill their attacking positions.
When you look beyond Klopp’s first choice front three, he is limited in his options and, not only does it restrict the impact his side can make on the pitch, it means opposition sides have no issue predicting what team the German might pick.
Signing Depay would allow Liverpool to change their starting line-up to suit the needs of certain fixtures. Klopp would also then be able to introduce more quality from the bench at late stages in crucial games.
It is also universally known that a stronger bench is a major factor in inspiring players in the starting XI to perform, as they are aware that failure to do so would result in being swapped out or benched for the next game.
Perhaps the best reason to sign Depay would be that it would most certainly anger Manchester United fans all around the world.
His disappointing career with the Red Devils led to his departure in 2017 and, two years later, Liverpool must do everything they can to ensure he returns to England.
