Alisson told the Liverpool Echo that a total lack of egos at the club is the secret behind the Reds’ stunning form this season.
The Brazilian joined the Reds in the summer for what was a world record fee for a goalkeeper until Chelsea signed Kepa Arrizabalaga.
“In football generally, there can be a lot of vanity,” Alisson said.
“Some players only look to themselves and can be selfish in only focusing on their own interests.
“At this club, I don’t see that, I see everyone looking for the same goal and working to achieve it. This is a great team, always focused on the next game and the challenge.”
Alisson has been a key performer this season, leading the Premier League goal-keeping charts for clean sheets with 19. Some have argued that van Dijk is more responsible for the Reds’ impeccable defensive record this season but this is unfair on Alisson.
The Brazilian brought a level of composure to the back line that was entirely absent last season.
If it was purely down to van Dijk, then Liverpool would have won the Champions League last season and not succumbed to two horrific goalkeeping errors.
Loris Karius’s demise since the end of the last season has been quite shocking but it provides a stark contrast to the current goalkeeping situation at the club.
With the summer transfer window not that far away, it is a major change for Liverpool fans not having to worry about whether or not Klopp will sign a starting goalkeeper.
Alisson has the no.1 position locked down for the next decade in all likelihood and now it is up to Klopp and co. to fix a few areas of the squad to ensure Liverpool are ready for the 2019/20 season.
