Liverpool have reportedly bid for an unnamed Benfica player as the Liga Nos outfit prepares for a summer transfer window that could see €300million generated from player sales.
According to a report from Portuguese news outlet Correio de Manha, seven players could leave Benfica this summer and Liverpool have made an unspecified bid to land an unnamed player from the Liga Nos champions.
Benfica president Luis Filipe Viera has reportedly received offers for his players that would see around €300million generated from player sales this summer.
The players that Correio de Manha has named are Grimaldo, Rúben Dias, João Félix, Gedson, Florentino, Ferro and Jota.
If made to choose a player from Benfica, Joao Felix would likely be the first choice for most fans. The teenager is being billed as one of Portugal’s best young talents since a certain Cristiano Ronaldo broke through in the early 2000s.
While it would be quite difficult to start at Liverpool right away, Jurgen Klopp is one of the best managers to play under as a young footballer.
The German gave Trent Alexander-Arnold his debut when he was 18 and over the last two years, he has emerged as the brightest right back prospect in world football.
If Felix isn’t the man that Liverpool have bid for, it might be Francisco Reis Ferreira. It was reported in mid-March that the Reds had enquired over his availability and so if Correio de Manha are to be believed, there’s a chance ‘Ferro’ could be the man Liverpool are after.
Liverpool are in need of a new centre back but ‘Ferro’ has made limited appearances for the Benfica first team so it’s difficult to tell whether or not he would be suited to a big move to Anfield.
Besides, the Portuguese centre back is a few months older than Joe Gomez, who has proven that he is one of the best young centre backs in world football.
All things considered, no real narratives can be formed based on this story until Correio de Manha actually name the player that Liverpool have allegedly bid for.
Who would you like Liverpool to sign from Benfica this summer, Reds?
