Sadio Mane could have joined Spurs in 2016 had the Reds not beaten their rivals to his signature, claims the London Evening Standard.
Southampton sold Mane to Liverpool for £35million and he has been an absolute star since. He has scored 11 goals in his last 11 games and is easily the Reds most in-form player.
According to the Evening Standard’s David Lynch, Mauricio Pochettino was desperate to sign Mane but lost out to Jurgen Klopp.
The Senegal forward had even visited Spurs’ Enfield training ground before he decided to join Liverpool instead.
Thankfully, Liverpool got their man and he has been such an important player since joining the club.
He has had a level of inconsistency to his game but as he’s getting older, the 26-year-old has demonstrated an improved ability to perform consistently.
Much like Salah and Firmino, Mane benefits when he needs to be relied upon as the star of the team. With his attacking counterparts struggling for goals and form, Mane has stepped up and allowed himself to be counted on.
Liverpool are chasing Manchester City in the Premier League title and if the Reds are named as champions, fans will forever remember his efforts as a star performer.
