Liverpool would reportedly be willing to sanction a deal for Sadio Mane if it meant they got Marco Asensio in return.
Spanish news outlet Sport makes this claim as rumours surrounding Zinedine Zidane’s interest in Sadio Mane continue to swirl.
Real Madrid are keen on taking the Liverpool forward to Spain and Jurgen Klopp is apparently ready to make a counteroffer. The German would sell Mane but not unless he is able to sign Asensio in return.
It’s likely nonsense but it does raise an interesting debate. Are Liverpool in more need of Mane’s brilliance in the final third or the silky quality that Marco Asensio possesses between the lines?
In an ideal world, I would keep Mane and offer Philippe Coutinho the chance to return to Liverpool but it’s incredibly unlikely that Jurgen Klopp will be willing to re-sign the Brazilian.
With that in mind, I still don’t think Asensio is exactly what Liverpool are in need of. Funnily enough, in terms of style and quality, Nabil Fekir genuinely is the perfect fit.
It’s so disappointing that a deal wasn’t pushed through given how close it was to happening.
The Frenchman is strong enough to not be concerned about the physical demands of the Premier League and prolific enough to replace the creativity and goalscoring talents that Coutinho brought to the Reds midfield.
Of course, the only reason he isn’t a Liverpool player right now is because the medical staff said he was an injury risk due to his history with bad knee injuries.
While his knee hasn’t crumbled this season, Liverpool were unwilling to make the £53million gamble required to sign him.
Hopefully, one of Brandt, Havertz or Ziyech can be signed this summer to take the Reds to the next level.
