Chris Kirkland told Jim White on talkSPORT that he was wowed by Alisson after seeing him train at Melwood.
The Brazilian joined Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer and has been exemplary between the sticks for the Reds. Starting 31 games in the league, Alisson has kept 17 clean sheets and contributed to the title challenge that is currently underway.
“I’ve been lucky enough to be down at the training ground a couple of times and he’s the only goalkeeper I’ve watched and gone wow,” Kirkland told Jim White on talkSPORT.
“I walked away and I was purring when I got home. I was smiling because I’d just seen an incredible session from him.
“John Achterberg, the goalkeeper coach there, and Alisson were training with Simon Mignolet. Those two were great but Alisson was just incredible.”
At the end of the 2013/14 season, it became clear that what was stopping Liverpool from becoming a powerhouse was the lack of a world-class centre back and goalkeeper.
In Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, Liverpool now have both and are reaping the rewards.
Top of the Premier League table and through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League with a favourable draw, the Reds are poised for a fantastic end to the season.
If all Liverpool needed in Kiev was a better goalkeeper and Mohamed Salah fit, it will be encouraging for fans to know that is now the case.
That said, Sadio Mane is now the reliable goalscorer and Salah the one playing a more supporting role.
With Porto the team standing between Liverpool and the Champions League semifinals, it’s going to be thrilling to watch the Reds take on the Portuguese side in a couple of weeks.
