Martin Atkinson will referee Liverpool’s crunch clash with Spurs at Anfield on Sunday and supporters are not happy about it.
When Atkinson officiated Liverpool’s snowy clash with Leicester City in January, he failed to award a stonewall penalty against the Foxes after Naby Keita was felled in the box by Ricardo Pereira.
The game ended 2-2 and two crucial points were dropped. With the 47-year-old now set to be in charge for the clash on Merseyside this weekend, Reds fans are dreading the consequences.
The last time Liverpool and Spurs met at Anfield, the North London side stole a win at the death thanks to a dive from Erik Lamela while Harry Kane was guilty of simulation to win a penalty earlier in the game.

Martin Atkinson is the referee for our game against spurs on Sunday ..can’t think of a worse referee for us as I’m convinced he hates Klopp. Even when he’s been 4th official his body language is so dismissive towards him ..yes I’m an expert in body language 😎 ##LFC

Atkinson was guilty of failing to give Keita a penalty at Anfield against Leicester and then just days later, awarded a goal to Manchester City despite the fact Sergio Aguero handled the ball.
Not awarding a clear penalty to Liverpool and not showing two red cars to Leicester on Wednesday, allowing Sergio Aguero to score with his hand on Sunday. Martin Atkinson shouldn’t be allowed to manage a Premier League game anytime soon in my opinion.

In the space of 5 days Martin Atkinson has denied Liverpool a clear penalty, causing us to drop points to Leicester, and allowed Sergio Agüero to score with his arm, helping City beat Arsenal.
What a funny coincidence…

Martin Atkinson has made 2 MASSIVE incorrect decisions in 2 games & both have consequences for our title push.
After ignoring a blatant penalty for us, he gets rewarded by the Premier League with the biggest game of the weekend.
Then he allows Aguero to score with his arm! pic.twitter.com/b7KCIQVcqX

While there is every chance that Liverpool can still get a win against Spurs on Sunday, fans will be forgiven for feeling nervous purely due to Atkinson’s presence on the pitch.
