Martin Atkinson will referee Liverpool’s crunch clash with Spurs at Anfield on Sunday and supporters are not happy about it.

When Atkinson officiated Liverpool’s snowy clash with Leicester City in January, he failed to award a stonewall penalty against the Foxes after Naby Keita was felled in the box by Ricardo Pereira.

The game ended 2-2 and two crucial points were dropped. With the 47-year-old now set to be in charge for the clash on Merseyside this weekend, Reds fans are dreading the consequences.

The last time Liverpool and Spurs met at Anfield, the North London side stole a win at the death thanks to a dive from Erik Lamela while Harry Kane was guilty of simulation to win a penalty earlier in the game.

Supporters have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration at the referee chosen to officiate the crunch clash at Anfield.

Atkinson was guilty of failing to give Keita a penalty at Anfield against Leicester and then just days later, awarded a goal to Manchester City despite the fact Sergio Aguero handled the ball.

While there is every chance that Liverpool can still get a win against Spurs on Sunday, fans will be forgiven for feeling nervous purely due to Atkinson’s presence on the pitch.
