In an interview, Eden Hazard was asked about the players he admires and said that Mohamed Salah is one that he aspires to emulate.

The Belgian is enjoying a great season on an individual level. With 13 goals and 11 assists in the league this season, the former Lille attacker has certainly been impressive this season but has been let down by his teammates.

When asked which current players he admires, Hazard replied: “I like Modric. He’s more of a midfielder than me but, of course, I like Messi and Ronaldo. Mo Salah is one of my good friends and he’s doing something incredible. I try to look at this player and this player and try to reach that level.”

While the two players are friends, Salah and Hazard have been constantly been compared and contrasted.

Last season, Salah set a Premier League record by scoring 32 goals in a 38 game campaign. He bested the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez, who held the record previously for 31 goals.

The Egyptian hasn’t quite been at the same level this year and has 17 goals in 31 games. The difference is that this season, his goals have contributed to a title challenge whereas his 32 goal haul was during a push for Champions League football.

All agendas and bias aside, it’s always nice to hear professional footballers talk positively about each other. Social media has people convinced at times that the best players must be rivals and nothing more when the truth is that a lot of them are friends.
