Xherdan Shaqiri is set to miss Switzerland’s Euro 2020 qualifiers as the 27-year-old has reportedly picked up a groin injury.
The former Stoke City forward has been withdrawn from the Swiss national team ahead of their qualifiers against Georgia and Denmark, according to BBC Sport.
This particular piece of news is intriguing as there are many Liverpool fans who believe that there is something going on behind the scenes that could involve Shaqiri and Jurgen Klopp.
Given that the explosive attacker hasn’t started a game since the end of January and has made two appearances otherwise, it seems odd that he has played so little when Liverpool have needed a little more ingenuity in the final third.
While some have suggested that there is something peculiar going on with Shaqiri, Andy Robertson has been also been withdrawn from international duty due to a ‘dental emergency.’
Jurgen Klopp appears to be doing what Pep Guardiola has done consistently while at Manchester City in making his players stay in England over the international break to avoid unnecessary injuries.
With Spurs awaiting the Reds after the break, Klopp will be desperate for his players to avoid getting injured.
A win over the North London outfit will be crucial to ensuring Liverpool stay top of the Premier League.
