Fabinho says that Roberto Firmino was instrumental in him deciding to join Liverpool for £43million last summer.
The Brazilian told Sky Sports before Liverpool’s win over Fulham: “Bobby played an important role in me coming here.
“Before coming here, I’d spoken to him about what it’s like at the club and what the city is like as well as the good areas to live in.”
Since signing for £43million last summer, his impact on Liverpool’s defensive game has been huge. Despite only being here a matter of months, the Ligue 1 champion has been compared to Javier Mascherano.
The Reds’ no.3 continued: “It’s always good to have compatriots with you when you join a new club, so my friendship with him has been important.”
It’s been almost a decade since Liverpool last had a top quality defensive midfielder. Being at the top of the table tells a certain part of the story regarding the Brazilian’s influence at the club this season.
While he has been compared to Mascherano, a rugged pit-pull type midfielder, Fabinho is more elegant.
As his sprayed passes at Craven Cottage would tell you, he has also had a big impact on Liverpool’s attacking game.
Liverpool are now top of the table after their crucial late win and Fabinho is likely to be vital as the Reds attempt to win their first Premier League title come May.
