Robert Lewandowski blames Niko Kovac's tactics for Liverpool defeat

Robert Lewandowski has hit out at Bayern Munich manager Niko Kovac’s tactics against Liverpool as the Reds beat the Germans 3-1 in their own backyard on Wednesday evening.

Two goals from Sadio Mane and a brilliant header from Virgil van Dijk were enough to overcome Bayern.

Speaking after the game, Lewandowski said: “In both games we played too defensive. “We didn’t try to push forward to create situations – in the first game and tonight.

“We were playing too deep, we didn’t take risks to try to score the goals, I don’t know why. We didn’t try to play offensive and we didn’t have a lot of chances. That was our problem and that’s why Liverpool beat us.

“I am not happy, I am angry because we should have done better.”

Although Joel Matip scored an own goal as a result of a Serge Gnabry cross, Liverpool were excellent defensively.

The partnership the Cameroonian has formed with Virgil van Dijk appears to be stronger with each passing game.

While Joe Gomez is the better defender, his absence hasn’t been felt as keenly as it might have been had Matip not been performing to such high standards over the last few months.
