Dejan Lovren has been out injured for most of 2019 but is back in training and could face Bayern Munich in the Champions League this evening.

Jurgen Klopp has had to deal with several injuries to defenders this season and even had to hand 17-year-old Ki-Jana Hoever a debut in the FA Cup at the start of the year after Lovren limped off against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While Joel Matip has been superb for the Reds this season since stepping in for Lovren and long-term injury concern Joe Gomez, Klopp will be delighted to have another senior centre-back fit and ready to play even if Matip has done an exceptional job covering for his injured teammates.

On Lovren’s availability for the Bayern clash, Klopp said: “Dejan was in the squad against Burnley but I don’t think he was ready to play.

“He trained in a normal way this morning and he is an option. To play 90 minutes might be a bit much but we will see.”

As far as I’m concerned, Lovren’s future at Liverpool should be a huge question mark for Jurgen Klopp as he simply isn’t trustworthy when it comes to staying fit. Add to that the fact that he can be a liability on the pitch and surely his position at the club must be under threat?

That said, however, with only a handful of games remaining between now and the end of the season, Lovren’s return to fitness will be a major boost with several ‘must-win’ games to go in the Premier League.
