Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Federico Chiesa this summer, with Fiorentina looking to receive up to €80million (£69m) for his services.
Jurgen Klopp is certain to be in the market for a versatile attacker at the end of the season. Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are both set to leave the club and will need to be replaced.
Timo Werner has been heavily linked with Bayern Munich the favourites to land the German while FC Inter News report that Liverpool are interested in signing Chiesa.
The forward has scored 11 goals and assisted a further eight for his teammates and is very versatile. Able to play on both wings, he is also able to play as a centre forward or attacking midfielder – something Klopp is sure to be a fan of.
Inter Milan and Napoli are also interested in landing Chiesa this summer and the former is believed to be willing to offer Yann Karamoh or Eddie Salcedo as part of a player plus cash deal to land their man.
Given the model of forward Liverpool have targeted under Klopp’s reign, with Salah, Mane and Shaqiri all quick and versatile, it’s clear to see why Chiesa might be a target for the German manager.
I am of the view, however, that for the Reds to maintain their position at or near the top in England and Europe, the best players need to be recruited.
While Chiesa has a bright future, the likes of Werner would have a more significant impact.
