Liverpool are ‘chasing’ Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Mimmo Malfatano.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino haven’t been as terrifying as a collective this season and while this slight drop off in goals could be attributed to the lack of a Philippe Coutinho-esque playmaker, some fans want to see a new forward arrive in the summer.
I would love to see a player of Insigne’s quality arrive at the same price but he would need to accept a squad rotation role as Mane and Salah are better forwards than the Italian despite not being quite as electrifying this season.
“Insigne is interesting Manchester United, PSG and Liverpool, but this is nothing new,” Malfatano said via Sport Witness.
“Klopp is one of the greatest admirers of Insigne, but there is always one. Lorenzo is tied to Napoli for another three years, De Laurentiis can hardly have the intention to sell him.
“Obviously if the boy – through the agent – were to show the desire to go elsewhere, the club could consider dealing for him with some clubs.”
While I am certain Klopp will have his eyes on a versatile forward to bolster his ranks in the summer, I don’t believe Insigne is a player that he is targeting. At just five 5’2″, the Napoli star would really struggle with the physicality of the Premier League.
