Liverpool are interested in signing Porto’s versatile defender Eder Militao but will need to act fast as the Brazilian appears to be close to agreeing a deal with Real Madrid.
Jurgen Klopp has been bombarded with defensive injuries and suspensions this season, with James Milner’s red card against Crystal Palace compounding his woes further.
Luckily for the German, an 11 day reprieve should see Joe Gomez return to action which means Liverpool can at least field a backline compromised entirely of defenders – even if three of them will be central defenders.
This is where a player like Eder Militao would come in extremely handy. Like Joe Gomez, he is able to play at centre back as well as full back and is a confident ball player.
According to a report from the Daily Mail (print edition, page 128, 20th January), Liverpool are interested in signing Militao but will need to overcome Real Madrid who are the favourites to sign the Brazilian.
A report from Brazilian media outlet SPOR TV claims that the 13-time European champions are close to agreeing a deal for the 21-year-old so Liverpool will need Michael Edwards to pull off another masterclass to get this transfer off the ground.
Liverpool are more than likely not signing any players this month but a deal to see him come in the summer would be absolutely perfect.
