Liverpool and Manchester United lock horns in just over two weeks and Mourinho has said that he will be unable to call on Alexis Sanchez for a lengthy period.

Since signing for Manchester United on a free transfer in January, things have not gone as planned for Sanchez.

In 30 appearances, he has only managed to score four goals while he is still on enormous wages. There has been talk of there being a breakdown in relationship with Mourinho but while there is no confirmation of that, the Portuguese has confirmed that he will be out of action for a while.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of a Premier League fixture against Southampton, Mourinho intimated that the Chilean will be out for a long time.

“It is not a little muscular injury from which he will be ready in a week or 10 days,” he said.

“It is an aggressive muscular injury. He has not had a scan yet but the player is experienced. He knows what the injury is.

“From my experience, the painful scream and the way it happened, it will be a long time.

“For me and Alexis Sanchez, the grade is different to the one that Lindelof has and that was not easy.”
