Barcelona general manager Pep Segura has given Ousmane Dembele his backing as the Frenchman is linked with a move to Liverpool.
Since completeing a big money move to Barcelona last summer, Dembele has struggled with injury and form and while he has proven quite useful for Ernesto Valverde this season, he continues to be linked with moves away from Catalonia.
The main cause for these stories lies with his discipline track record in Spain. Since the start of the season, he has been late a number of times and reports claim that Barcelona are growing tired of his tardiness.
That said, however, Barca general manager Pep Segura has given the 21-year-old his backing but admitted he held talks with the player’s agent over what the future holds.
“There is no problem with Dembele. He is very young and has never had to make an effort like the one he is doing now to adapt to Barca’s game,” he told SER radio.
“We recognise that it is hard for him and he also recognises it, but we’re working to change this situation as quickly as possible.
“Yes, we had a meeting, just like I met with three other representatives, but it’s normal, it’s part of my job, they’re natural things.”
Klopp managed Dembele at Borussia Dortmund but given his apparent attitude issues, it seems unlikely the German coach would risk upsetting Liverpool’s team chemistry to sign a very expensive player who isn’t a guaranteed starter.
