Daniel Sturridge has been charged by the Football Association for breaching rules against betting in January but has insisted he has never gambled on football.
While he might have impressed Liverpool supporters this season with his newfound fitness, the Englishman has now been charged over illegal betting.
The Echo report that the forward is lending the FA his full cooperation as they launch an investigation and the club have revealed that the forward claims he has never bet on football.
A LFC spokesperson said: “Daniel has given his full and unequivocal cooperation throughout this process and has assured the club he will continue to do so.
“Daniel has also stated categorically that he has never gambled on football. As with any issue of this nature, we will allow the process to be concluded in its entirety before making any further comment.”
A statement on the FA’s official website said: “Daniel Sturridge has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of The FA’s Betting Rules, specifically in relation to Rule E8(1)(a)(ii) and Rule E8(1)(b), during the period of January 2018.”
