Liverpool are no longer in the running to sign Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir as rivals Chelsea and Bayern Munich emerge as the frontrunners to sign the Frenchman.
While I am fairly certain that Liverpool won’t sign Fekir after the summer’s debacle, we have seen Jurgen Klopp spend big in January before, with the German spending big earlier this year to land the indomitable Virgil van Dijk.
That said, Klopp told reporters the other day that he doesn’t expect much January transfer business next year: “If crazy things happen then maybe we have to think new but I don’t expect that.
“At the moment it doesn’t look like we will be too busy but it all depends on injuries and things like that. In the moment we have each position twice, three times and sometimes four times covered.
“I don’t think there is any reason to try to do something really big like bring in another striker.
“We have all that we need. Our job now is to use the quality that we have and to work with it because one player doesn’t change it.”
According to French news outlet L’Equipe, Liverpool have dropped out of the race to sign Fekir. Chelsea and Bayern Munich have emerged as the frontrunners to land the Frenchman.
For those hoping Klopp would bring Fekir in the way he did Virgil van Dijk earlier this year, this will come as an annoying news update.
