Liverpool have submitted an offer to Paris Saint-Germain to sign Adrien Rabiot but will need to beat Manchester City to his signature as Pep Guardiola holds an interest in the Frenchman.
A point of contention among Liverpool supporters this season has been the lack of invention in the middle of the pitch as the current crop of Reds midfielders struggle to create many opportunities for their forward counterparts.
While many would sooner forget him, Philippe Coutinho’s cunning presence at the top end of the pitch is sorely missed as Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner lack the cutting edge to unlock the likes of Manchester City.
Liverpool haven’t struggled against the lower table sides but have really struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities against the big boys this season.
With Adrien Rabiot’s contract in Paris slowly running out, talk has begun of Liverpool ramping up their interest in the 23-year-old and Mundo Deportive reported at the weekend that the Reds submitted a ‘powerful’ offer to sign the PSG midfielder.
Now, the Metro claim that Liverpool are being rivalled by Manchester City and indicate that, with Rabiot holding talks with several clubs including Barcelona, he is closing in on a big decision over where his future lies.
While Liverpool are open to signing Rabiot in the summer for free, PSG want to conduct a cash deal if there is no breakthrough in contract talks. The midfielder is apparently open to a move to City having spent a year in the Manchester club’s academy but has also shown his affection for Liverpool on social media in the past.
