Unai Emery provided an update on eight of his players ahead of Liverpool’s trip to the Emirates later this evening, with several starters yet to pass a fitness test.
Heading into the fixture in North London, both sides arrive full of confidence as each is in brilliant form which means that, on top of the fixture’s history of being entertaining, the late kickoff today will be that much more thrilling.
Some Liverpool supporters believe that the Reds’ newfound defensive solidity will mean the game will be less exciting – or rather, less likely to cause heart attacks on Merseyside and more likely to see the Anfield outfit leave London with the three points.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed on Friday that Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita will definitely miss the Arsenal game while Unai Emery had to deliver a lengthier injury update than his Liverpool counterpart.
The Gunners boss will be sweating on the fitness of four players as he awaits a late fitness test to ascertain whether or not Nacho Monreal, Sead Kolasinac, Hector Bellerin and Sokratis will be fit to play.
The quartet is struggling with respective hamstring, ankle and thigh injuries and may or may not be fit to face Liverpool. Granit Xhaka could be forced to start at left back for Arsenal if all of Bellerin, Monreal and Kolasinac are deemed unfit to play.
Meanwhile, Matteo Guendouzi is ruled out of selection due to a one-match suspension he picked up midweek against Blackpool for a second booking and a red card. Mohamed Elneny, Laurent Koscielny and Dinos Mavrapanos will all miss out due to injury.
