Xherdan Shaqiri spoke about his new role in the Liverpool team and said that he was glad to grab the opportunity handed to him by Jurgen Klopp.
The Swiss attacker started in Liverpool’s midfielder and was given the license to roam as he used his pace, sublime first touch and eye for a pass to help his new side to a win over Huddersfield.
The Terriers put in a fantastic performance and ultimately went down as the unluckier side on the day as they were denied by the post in the first half and may well have had a penalty on a different day under a different referee.
Shaqiri, however, isn’t thinking about what could have been but is rather focusing on what was a positive individual performance on a day where Liverpool weren’t at their electric best.
After the game, Shaqiri said: “I wanted to give a good performance back to the coach because he gave me the chance to play from the beginning.
“I played the last 10 to 15 minutes against Chelsea in that same role. It’s an interesting position. You can see I don’t often play this position. Maybe I have more of the ball in this position.
“We got our goal, it was a good pass and a good finish. I felt good and I just want to keep it going. I’m really happy to be here.”
