Reliable journalist Dave Maddock has claimed that Arsenal, as well as several other clubs, are interested in Alberto Moreno and could make a move for him in the summer.
While the Spanish fullback is a very loveable character and means well, he’s not the most talented defender and has shown time and again that he’s reckless in the tackle and has very poor awareness at the back.
There’s a theory among Liverpool fans on social media that he’s only been kept at the club as long as he has because he’s good for team morale and has been happy to adopt a sqaud role in the past.
However, with Moreno now expressing his desire to leave, Liverpool are reportedly resigned to losing him despite having offered renewed terms to the Spaniard. His contract expires in eight months and Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a free transfer.
Maddock reports that Unai Emery is a fan of Moreno and having worked with him at Sevilla, he is comfortable in the knowledge of how he trains and performs. The Gunners boss is looking for a replacement for Sead Kolasinac after losing faith in the 25-year-old fullback.
Given Arsenal’s transfer policy, being able to sign Moreno on a free is appealing and the North London outfit is considering making a move in the summer to secure the Spaniard’s services.
It seems unlikely to me that Moreno will move to Arsenal to become their second choice left back when there would be no change whatsoever in his squad role and he is already settled on Merseyside.
