Sadio Mane has reportedly broken his thumb in a training session with Senegal on international duty and after being taken to the hospital, he is a doubt to face Huddersfield on Saturday.
While there is yet to be official word on the extent of injuries to Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, with Sadio Mane’s name now being added to Liverpool’s injury list, Jurgen Klopp will be even more frustrated with the international break than usual.
After going without a win in four consecutive fixtures prior to the start of the international break, many fans and a number of pundits said that the timing of the break would benefit the Reds as it offered a reprieve from a punishing fixture list.
Now, however, with three key Liverpool starters injured and no word on how serious each injury is, it’s not looking good for Klopp and he will be understandably frustrated with how things have panned out.
A number of journalists on Twitter confirmed that Sadio Mane suffered an injury while on international duty with Senegal. It’s uncertain exactly what happened but by all accounts, the forward has suffered a broken thumb and is a doubt to face Huddersfield on Saturday.
Liverpool Echo reporter Ian Doyle writes: “Liverpool are aware Sadio Mane has suffered a hand injury while on international duty with Senegal. Will be assessed on return to Melwood. Reports suggest Mane has broken his thumb.”
Hopefully, the reports are wrong and it’s just a sprain and the Senegal attacker is fit to play but if he has broken his thumb, at least his injury comes at a time when the fixture list is a little bit kinder to the Merseyside outfit.
