Lorenzo Insigne has caught Liverpool’s eye, according to Rai Sport, and with his deal only expiring in 2022, Napoli are not in a position where they have to sell.
Philippe Coutinho’s £142million move to Barcelona in January didn’t seem to impact the Reds all too much up until the Champions League final when Mohamed Salah was forced off the pitch with a serious shoulder injury.
Without the Egyptian, Liverpool battled to create any genuine chances and aside from Mane scoring the equaliser and hitting the post, Real Madrid were quite comfortable in defence and never seemed like they were going to lose the game.
This season, without Coutinho’s ability to engineer space in midfield and find the telling pass, Liverpool have looked rather one-dimensional and this has led to a number of names being linked with moves to Merseyside, and now Rai Sport claim Klopp is keen on Insigne.
Rai Sport say little more than that Liverpool are following Lorenzo Insigne’s situation at Napoli closely and that his deal with the Serie A outfit expires in 2022 but it seems very unlikely that he will move to Anfield anytime soon.
In September, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed he has a massive release clause in his contract, saying: “Insigne? He has a symbolic release clause. With Raiola, we decided that we are only going to sell him for £180m. It’s not a written agreement but a verbal one. £180m, right?”
For me, there is zero chance that Liverpool spend £180million on Insigne when Coutinho left for £40million less than that 10 months ago. Adding to that, the Italian isn’t a creative midfielder but a prolific forward; something Liverpool are well stocked on.
