Ederson has revealed that he relishes the competition at international level and is excited to play against Saudi Arabia after Tite told him he would start.
There is a debate among Liverpool and Manchester City fans over who is better between Alisson and Ederson, with many Reds using the former’s status in the Brazil squad as reason to suggest he is the superior goalkeeper.
Both goalies kept clean sheets on the weekend, with Alisson more fortunate not to concede after Riyad Mahrez blazed a penalty kick over the bar to let Liverpool off the hook. Leroy Sane won a spot kick for the Citizens but his Morrocan teammate was unable to capitalise on the situation.
With the international break now underway, Ederson has told reporters that Tite has said to his primary goalkeepers that they will start a game each and the Manchester City goalie is keen to play for his national side.
He told Globo Esporte: “I think there is a lot of similarity between the two of us, he is having a very positive start to the season at Liverpool. Here he is one step ahead of me, he played in a World Cup but that’s not a reason to work less.
“Brazil is well served for goalkeepers, many who have not been to the World Cup are very good. Those who are picked will do a good job.
“Yesterday, after training, Tite called to talk to me and Alisson and said that I would play the first game and Alisson the second.
“I was very happy to have an opportunity to play a match with the Brazilian team.”
