Manchester City will be without Benjamin Mendy, Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne when they travel to face Liverpool this weekend.
After losing 1-0 to Napoli after Carlo Ancelotti got his tactics spot on at the Stadio Sao Paolo on Wednesday, Liverpool will be hoping to bounce back when they host Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Gundogan will not be fit to face Liverpool, with Pep confirming the German is a doubt to play at Anfield, saying: “Gundogan has a problem with his muscle, I don’t know his injury. We’ll check it tomorrow. [But] Kevin [De Bruyne] has started to train with us, so that’s the first step.”
MEN report that Gundogan is likely to be absent from the Manchester City squad while Benjamin Mendy is also a doubt.
The Liverpool Echo report that Mendy is a doubt to face Liverpool after his recent absence from action for the champions and has not been called up to the France national team setup, raising further questions over his availability for City.
Meanwhile, Kevin De Bruyne has returned to training this week but will not make his return to action until after the international break which is a big boost for Liverpool.
A win would send Liverpool back to the top of the table after dropping to second last week after they dropped two points at Stamford Bridge while City won against Brighton.
