Kevin Grosskreutz has urged Mario Götze to move to Liverpool in the January transfer window to regain the form which made him one of Europe’s most highly sought after stars.
In their first seven games this season, Liverpool have been superb even if they are yet to find the fluidity which made them a terrifying team to come up against last season and in midfield, Jürgen Klopp has a wealth of options available to him.
It’s for this reason that it is somewhat surprising to hear that Kevin Grosskreutz has urged his former teammate Mario Götze to join the Reds as the German struggles to perform with the same efficiency as he did while Klopp was Dortmund boss.
Liverpool turned down the chance to sign Nabil Fekir in the summer and may well still be on the lookout for an attacking midfielder and Grosskreutz believes Götze should make a switch to the Premier League to rekindle his electrifying form last seen in 2012/13.
Grosskreutz told German TV: “I’m very sorry for Mario Götze at the moment, because stuff is written about him – and only him – every day. In Brugge, for example, the whole team didn’t play well.

“Maybe it would be good for him to go abroad in the winter to find a bit more peace and bring his career back on track. (Jurgen) Klopp knows him quite well, he would be a good fit for Liverpool.”
Klopp wanted Götze at Liverpool in 2015 but the German was rejected by his former charge and so Sadio Mané was signed instead; a move that has benefitted all parties involved. I don’t think a move for Götze will be made anytime soon despite the midfielder still just 26 years of age.
