Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur later today and reliable journalist Dave Maddock believes that Fabinho will return to the bench for Jürgen Klopp’s side.
The international break was long and arduous but with Premier League action set to resume today, supporters will be able to feast their eyes on the most exciting game of the week at Wembley.
Spurs play host to Liverpool and will look to put an end to the Reds’ unbeaten streak this campaign but given the way Klopp’s side has gone about things thus far, the Lily Whites face a tough test.
While Klopp is not expected to make big changes to the side that beat Leicester City 2-1 two weeks ago, the German will reportedly restore Fabinho to his matchday squad after the Brazilian was excluded previously.
Dave Maddock has revealed that the Brazilian will be restored to Liverpool’s squad after a “frantic transatlantic dash” delivered Fabinho, Roberto Firmino and Alisson back to England in time to train for the Spurs clash.
The latter two will start the game at Wembley while Fabinho will start the game from the bench. His inclusion in Klopp’s matchday squad this week is good news as it potentially shows that he is close to starting for his new side.
Speaking to reporters, Klopp said on his new £43million man: “I don’t like to compare players but we had similar question about Robbo and Oxlade and I’m not sure if Sadio (Mane) played from the beginning, but I think he had a full pre-season.
“It’s absolutely no problem. I don’t like the situation, because I don’t like to say to Fabinho, who is full of energy and desire to play, to tell him he is not involved. That is not nice, but it is the job.
“He came from another league playing in a completely different system to us and that takes time. The plan was – and still is – that he will make us better.
“From my point it is all fine, but I know the situation isn’t what some people expected but I cannot change that.”
