Dejan Lovren commented on a post on the UEFA Champions League’s official Instagram account, showing how he feels about Sergio Ramos winning an award for the best defender in Europe.
He divides opinion does our Lovren. Since signing for Liverpool in 2014, his career with the Reds has been characterised by making high profile errors but his dedication and loyalty have never been in question.
The Croatian is actually very talented and while he might not be as good as he thinks, his form in the buildup to the Champions League final was impeccable. He managed to keep Cristiano Ronaldo quiet in Kiev and made a fantastic late block to deny the Portuguese.
Yet, it was Sergio Ramos who was the centre of attention after UEFA’s showpiece in Ukraine as his side won the game after his controversial challenge on Mohamed Salah which resulted in the forward being subbed early in the game.
Ramos won UEFA’s award for the best defender in the Champions League for the 2018/19 season and Lovren commented on a post from UEFA, expressing his thoughts on the matter.

He simply used two facepalm emojis, showing that he clearly disagrees with Sergio Ramos winning the award while it’s unclear whether he believes he should have won the award. It might be that he thinks Virgil van Dijk deserved it more after his showings in Europe last season.
Lovren is yet to feature for Liverpool this season after aggravating a stomach injury during the World Cup with Croatia and in his absence, Joe Gomez is making a fairly convincing case to be Virgil van Dijk’s partner this season.
Given the hectic fixture list the Reds have ahead of them, Klopp will need as many players fit and firing and there’s no doubt Lovren will feature at some point in the next month.
