A report has indicated that Jürgen Klopp has been so impressed by Caoimhin Kelleher that the youngster is now officially considered as part of the Liverpool first team squad.
Loris Karius has completed a two-year loan move to Besiktas where he will be given the space he needs to develop in peace and slowly regain his confidence after a turbulent 3 months with Liverpool.
Danny Ward also completed a move elsewhere, joining Leicester City on a permanent basis which leaves Simon Mignolet as the only senior goalkeeper available to Klopp but it would appear as though the youngster is now a part of the first team setup.
The Liverpool Echo claim that Jurgen Klopp and his backroom staff have been ‘blown away’ by Kelleher’s development to the point that he has been promoted to be a part of the senior squad.
The 19-year-old shot-stopper’s promotion to be a part of the Reds’ first team should not come as a surprise given how Klopp has spoken about him in the past.
Klopp said during pre-season: “He’s an outstanding talent. A very cool boy, very cool with the ball, we saw that in a pre-season game that he played. In front of 100,000 or 60,000, he’s not really bothered about that. That’s a very important skill.
“He was an outfield player in his youth. He’s been a goalkeeper for a few years, but he must have been a very good outfield player as well. He has fantastic reactions.
“If nothing serious happens, he has a really fantastic future. I don’t know at the moment how many really good goalkeepers Ireland have, but one more isn’t a bad thing. I like him a lot and happy to have him in our squad.”
