Paul Merson believes that Jürgen Klopp’s work in the summer transfer window sets him up nicely to mount a title challenge this season.
As far as the top six sides in the Premier League aside, it looks as though Liverpool have come out of the market having conducted the best business with Tottenham failing to sign a single player.
The likes of Alisson, Fabinho, Naby Keïta and Xherdan Shaqiri stand the Reds in good stead to challenge quite seriously for top honours, with pretty much every weakness within the squad being addressed.
Although a new centre half wouldn’t have hurt, Paul Merson told Sky Sports that he is very impressed with the work that Klopp has done.
“I think Liverpool look a good team and it’s steadily gone along,” Merson said. “What I like about him [Klopp] he’s bought players to go in certain positions.
“He hasn’t just gone ‘oh, I’ll buy Tom, Dick and Harry’ and then when they come think ‘where am I going to play everybody?’.
“He’s gone ‘right, I need him, he’s got the legs, he’s going to get forward, I need a goalie’. They are looking very good.
“I know people said ‘oh they were expected to win last week’ – you’ve got to win. They’re the games you have to win when you’re expected to win, and the way they won it.”
