Joe Gomez has won his race against time to be fit to start Liverpool’s first game of the season against West Ham.
Naby Keïta and Alisson will make their competitive debuts at Anfield today while there is still some speculation over the fitness of new boy Fabinho, who was reportedly ill this week.
The Reds will field a very strong team to face the Hammers but it has been unclear this week whether or not Joe Gomez would be fit as well, with Jürgen Klopp telling reporters: “Ragnar (Klavan) no real chance, Joel (Matip) did parts of training like Joe (Gomez) did, we will see how they are today.”
London Evening Standard reporter David Lynch says that he understands that Joe Gomez has won his race against time to be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League opener at Anfield this afternoon.
Understand Joe Gomez has won his race to be fit for today’s game. Set to start alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

He wrote on Twitter: “Understand Joe Gomez has won his race to be fit for today’s game. Set to start alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.”
Supporters on social media have been stressed that Nat Philipps would be called into action to face the Hammers but it seems that Gomez will be fit after all, a massive boost to the Reds’ chances of winning their first game of the season.
It’s likely that Klopp will field a back five of Alisson, Clyne, Gomez, van Dijk and Robertson while there is uncertainty over Fabinho’s chances of starting in the engine room.
