Fabinho has spoken about interest from Manchester United while he was at AS Monaco, rubbishing suggestions a move fell through.
Liverpool announced that Fabinho had joined the club for £43million just a few days after the heartbreaking 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
His arrival reignited the passion and excitement that was present before the final and ensured that the positivity that surrounded the club was maintained throughout the summer.
Yet, the Brazilian has denied suggestions that Monaco ever barred him from joining United or even that there was concrete interest from the Manchester club.
“Manchester never showed any formal interest, they never made me an offer at all,” Fabinho told Sky Sports.
“Maybe there was some interest or a conversation but it’s not a case of Monaco not letting me go to Manchester United or denying me the move, nothing ever really materialised.”
Fabinho could be a hugely influential player for Liverpool this season. His ability to protect the back four means that the likes of Naby Keïta and Gini Wijnaldum will be able to work their magic in the final third without being over-burdened by defensive responsibility.
It’s unclear whether or not Fabinho will feature against West Ham later today as he has been ill this week.
