Phil Thompson’s hilarious reaction to Everton question

Phil Thompson’s reaction to being asked if Everton will finish above Liverpool this season is genuinely hilarious if not an indictment on the Blues’ prospects for the 2018/19 campaign.

You know what, I actually believe that Everton got some very shrewd business done this summer even if they overpaid here and there.

Yet, the Blues are not any closer to finishing above their city rivals than they have been for several years.

And the reaction from Phil Thompson when asked if Everton could leapfrog Liverpool this summer was brilliant.

When asked if Everton would finally manage to pip their eternal rivals and finish higher up in the league table, Thommo threw his head back and just laughed.

He then said: “Oh my goodness! I was watching the fella from Everton TV before, he nearly choked on his words when he got asked the same question.”

Everton have done well to add more quality to their starting lineup with the addition of Richarlison, Bernard, Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina as well as Kurt Zouma on loan and yet, it still seems a bit far-fetched to imagine them finishing above Liverpool.

Just like you, I am a hugely passionate Liverpool supporter. I started Rousing the Kop in January 2015 and since then it has grown tremendously and has even been nominated as 'Best New Football Blog' in the Football Blogging Awards.

  1. Wow hilarious!!!!Side-splitting stuff there Phil ,Who would even ask the question that knew anything about football? Liverpool and Spurs over 10 years into their respective projects both massively financed annually to upgrade to their present level. Let’s ask the question in 5 years of Usmanov level support and we may then be the new Man City who if people remember have been 2 leagues down not that long ago. Money is just about everything in this game and it does rather look like we’ve got oodles of it doesn’t it?
