Liverpool wait anxiously to find out if Fabinho will be fit to face West Ham United at Anfield on Sunday as the Brazilian picked up a knock against Torino on Tuesday.
After moving to Merseyside in a deal worth £43million, Fabinho impressed in pre-season and showed signs that he could be exactly what Jürgen Klopp needs at the base of his new look midfield.
Combining his pace, wiry frame and acute sense of where to be at all times, the Brazilian has already shown that he is the right man to protect Liverpool’s back four and allow the likes of Naby Keïta the freedom to wreak havoc for opposition sides.
However, he might not face West Ham at the weekend as he races to be fit after picking up a knock against Torino on Tuesday.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Fabinho picked up a knock during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Serie A side Torino at Anfield and sat out of training on Thursday as he aims to be fit for the Premier League opener on Sunday.
The Brazilian has yet to be ruled out of action by club doctors as they monitor how he responds to treatment over the next 48 hours. If he isn’t fit, Jürgen Klopp could hand Jordan Henderson a start despite only returning to training on Sunday last week.
Georginio Wijnaldum could start as the Reds’ no.6 if it comes to it as he has done a couple times in the past.
