Jamie Redknapp has backed Naby Keïta to be Liverpool’s replacement for Philippe Coutinho after he completed a £52million move from RB Leipzig.
If I had to take one thing from Liverpool’s pre-season and it couldn’t be how massive new goalkeeper Alisson is, it would have to be how incredible Naby Keïta is with or without the ball.
A superb article written by Joel Rabinowitz for This is Anfield discusses the brilliance of the Guinean dynamo and queries whether or not supporters are aware of just how good he really is.
And Jamie Redknapp is also a massive fan of his but believes that he could be Philippe Coutino’s replacement in the middle of the park and not Steven Gerrard’s heir as his kit number would suggest.
“Keïta’s a little powerhouse — an all-action hero in midfield. He has a great touch, will make goals and score them,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail when picking his 10 players to watch this season.
“There is also devilment in his play and that could get him in trouble. We saw that last season when he was sent off four times.
When Manchester United visit Anfield in December, I’m sure they’ll use every trick in the book to try to wind him up!
“But if he keeps his cool, he can be such an important player. The only time Liverpool missed Philippe Coutinho was against the more stubborn sides when they struggled to unlock the door.
“Keïta and fellow arrival Fabinho can bring that guile to Jürgen Klopp’s midfield.”
