Liverpool’s route to signing Alisson Becker might be unobstructed if reports are to be believed that Chelsea are targeting Petr Cech as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois if he leaves.
The Reds have submitted a sensational £62 million bid for Alisson as Jürgen Klopp looks to ensure that his ambition of winning silverware in England is not derailed by another season dogged by shocking goalkeeping errors.
In 2016, Liverpool lost the League Cup final against Manchester City partly due to a rather characteristic mistake in goal from Simon Mignolet. Last season, Loris Karius committed two errors against Real Madrid, throwing away the Champions League final.
Now, however, with a world record bid being launched for Allison, it looks as though Klopp will have one of the strongest sides in England at his disposal.
Sky Sports claim that Chelsea are “considering re-signing Petr Cech If they sell Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid and they are also interested in Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.”
Kaveh Solhekol wrote on Twitter that Liverpool’s move for Alisson has influenced Chelsea as they search for a replacement for Courtois as the Belgian edges closer to a move to Madrid.
If the Blues do indeed go for either Cech or Schmeichel, that will leave the route to signing Alisson unobstructed and will see the Reds complete a world record deal for a goalkeeper.
