Steven Gerrard has praised young Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria as he gears up to undergo pre-season with Scottish outfit Rangers.
The 20-year-old signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool before joining Rangers on a season-long loan in a bid to gain first-team experience.
Much like other youngsters at Liverpool, Ejaria is struggling to break into a side that is bursting with talent across the board. Harry Wilson is being targeted by a number of clubs, with it clear he is unable start regularly at Anfield.
Steven Gerrard is borrowing Ejaria from Liverpool and has heaped praise on the Academy graduate as well as thanking the Reds for being helpful with arranging the move.
“It’s been good Ovie has now joined us. He’s an exciting player, very skilful,” Gerrard said.
“He’ll have the crowd on the edge of their seats and fits the profile that we were looking for in the midfield area.
“He’s six foot two, he’s rangy, leggy. He can win balls back and also drive at defences and make things happen. He gives us that nice blend in midfield and something different to what’s been here before.
“I’m delighted to have him in for the year on loan. Liverpool were very helpful there.”
Ejaria will thrive in the Scottish Premier League. The football is at a decent level and he will learn what it’s like to play week in week out against fully grown men. The physicality in senior football is a lot different to that which he will remember from the Premier League 2.
Ejaria has an exciting future ahead of him and is in the mould of Paul Pogba. His height and frame help him to withstand challenges from other midfielders and defenders while he has a fantastic first touch and great skill on the ball.
