Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told Nabil Fekir he can sign a new contract with the club amidst uncertainty over where his future lies.
In the last week, there have been a number of interviews conducted by Lyon’s infamous president Jean-Michel Aulas and after the most recent one, I’m beginning to think that it’s part of a ploy to raise the asking price for Nabil Fekir.
Aulas has claimed there is interest from Real Madrid and Manchester United, with Jose Mourinho holding long discussions with the Lyon boss over Fekir.
While I think Mourinho might have had talks with the Frenchman, the sheer number of times Aulas has conducted interviews in the last week leads me to start wondering whether it’s just a clever way to raise the price for Fekir.
In an interview with La Parisien – as reported by the Liverpool Echo – Aulas said: “I spoke with Nabil Fékir the day after the night when we decided to stop negotiations with Liverpool. He was very calm.

“I immediately said to him that if he wanted to stay, we could do an extension. I’ve said it before, we don’t need to sell. We have the capacity to keep Fékir.
The current plan is to let nobody leave to have the best team possible & to make signings as previously planned.”
As things stand, Liverpool can still resurrect a deal for Fekir and the club hasn’t commented on the situation as they did with both Naby Keïta and Virgil van Dijk sagas last year.
What this says is that they are looking to keep things under wraps until there is either no way forward or a deal has been completed.
