Liverpool, according to astonishing reports from Spain, have made an astronomical £158 million bid for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.
At the start of June, Nabil Fekir’s move to Anfield fell through with suggestions that the Reds took issue with the playmaker’s injury history after a medical picked up the potential for future aggravation of his ACL problem from 2016.
And now, according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool have offered Real Madrid €180million (£158.2m) for 22-year-old Marco Asensio.
It’s worth noting, from the off, that Asensio’s contract with Los Blancos includes a huge release clause which would require an interested party to pay €700million (£615m).

If you thought for a moment that Liverpool would pay £158m to sign Asensio, it’s surely obvious they wouldn’t spend over half a billion quid on a single player to activate his exit clause.
Yet, Mundo Deportivo seem quite serious about their claim that the Reds have submitted a bid that would comfortably make the Spaniard the second-most expensive player of all time.
Deportivo – via Sport Witness – report: “The Merseyside club are willing to break the bank to bring Asensio to Anfield. The transfer offer mentioned is a “firm” and astronomical – €180m. However, the 22-year-old has a €700m release clause in his contract, which runs until 2023.
“Just to make this abundantly clear: Mundo Deportivo claim Liverpool have made a €180m offer for Marco Asensio.
“The offer is ‘on the table’ at Real Madrid, and the Spanish club ‘will study it’.”
I’m 120% certain that this is a pile of shit. It’s more than likely that this “news” is just lazy weekend writing to ensure the newspaper sells.
