Real Madrid sign Andriy Lunin - what does it mean for Liverpool?

Real Madrid have signed Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin but are still expected to challenge for Alisson to become Los Blancos’ no.1.

While speculation rages on over whether or not the Reds will sign Nabil Fekir this summer, just as much media attention is being devoted to whether or not they can secure an ambitious deal for Alisson.

The Roma goalkeeper was impressive last season and has attracted interest from all over Europe and is keen on making a big-money move.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are the two clubs most likely to sign him but the former’s transfer activity this week will not affect a potential move for the Brazilian.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Madrid have signed Ukrainian goalie Andry Lunin from Zorya for a fee believed to be in the region of £12.3million.

While they have bought the 19-year-old, he is not arriving as the club’s new no.1 and Julen Lopetegui is expected to continue to try and sign a new goalkeeper to take over from Keylor Navas.

The Costa Rican, while a great player, is not seen as the man to carry Madrid forward despite winning three consecutive Champions League titles.

This means that Liverpool, if still seriously interested in Alisson, will need to do battle with the 13-times European Cup winners.
