Jerome Boateng told he can leave for £40m - Liverpool interested

Bayern Munich are preparing a summer clearout ahead of Niko Kovač’s arrival as new manager, with Jerome Boateng free to leave for €45m (£40m).

One of the biggest surprises for Liverpool in the 2017/18 season was how important Dejan Lovren was in the Reds’ Champions League run. Aside from a mental slip against Roma at Anfield, he was immense.

Despite the Croatian’s improved performances over the course of the season, many still want to see Liverpool sign another central defender of Virgil van Dijk’s stature.

The Dutchman has been immense for the Reds, making an immediate impact after joining from Southampton for a world record fee for a defender of £75m.

Sport Bild claim that Jerome Boateng is one of four players being made available for transfer. Juan Bernat, Thiago Alcantara and Arturo Vidal are allowed to leave this summer if the right bid comes in.

The report claims that Jürgen Klopp is ready to match Bayern’s asking price of €45m (£40m) for Boateng, with the 29-year-old viewed as the ideal partner for van Dijk.

My Revenge On Ben Foster

If these reports are to be believed, Liverpool could have the most formidable central defensive partnerships not just in England, but in all of Europe.

Having made it to the Champions League final, Klopp’s Liverpool are an incredibly attractive destination for Europe’s top players, with it clear that the German manager is capable of improving his squad through his coaching alone.

At 29 years of age, I am certain that this would be appealing to Boateng and if he is set to leave Bayern, Liverpool would be a great place to seek a new challenge and win silverware.

The squad that is being assembled at Anfield, with Naby Keita and Fabinho already joining, is one that is capable of winning the Premier League next season.
