Suso wants to return to Liverpool 'some day'

Former Liverpool midfielder Suso has revealed that he would love to return to Liverpool in the future but is happy at AC Milan.

When Brendan Rodgers was Liverpool manager, I always took issue with transfer dealings and although you could argue that the infamous transfer committee had a lot to do with the dross that came into the club, the Northern Irishman had the final say on who left.

Of course, he tried is best to ensure Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling didn’t leave but at the time, Liverpool just weren’t as attractive as Barcelona and Manchester City were.

Steven Gerrard left the club due to the length of time it took for him to be offered a contract renewal but I was also gutted about the way Suso was phased out and sold to AC Milan.

The Spaniard has been one of AC Milan’s best performing players over the last two seasons, helping the Italian side to consecutive Europa League qualifications. This season, Suso has been fantastic, scoring 8 goals and setting up 14.

And while he’s not a transfer target for Liverpool, I would personally love to see him at the club again – and so would he!

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

The 24-year-old said: “Premier League football is different, I would call it special: I would like to play for Liverpool again some day. I grew up there and it is a big club.”

“In a sense I became a man before I became a footballer,” said Suso. “It was very hard with the lifestyle and language.

“But to this day I remember everything. I did not play that much but I got to know Steven Gerrard and be a team-mate of players such as Luis Suarez, Philippe Coutinho and Jamie Carragher. I’ll never forget my experience at Liverpool.”

Although all the players he has named are now gone, Suso’s desire to ‘one day” return to Merseyside should be food for thought for Klopp. He would be a great squad option, with the potential to evolve under the German into a top class attacking midfielder.

Speaking to the Guardian, he said: “I’m very happy at Milan. Always when there are rumours about me leaving I reiterate that I am happy here and I think the club is with me.

“I have a release clause and that was something both the club and my agent wanted. If the club wants to continue to be among the top sides and count on me then I am here for them.”

Signing Suso for £35 million would be fantastic business as he addresses a weak area in the squad and already knows the Premier League as well as being familiar with the club.
