If Jürgen Klopp decides he wants Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer, the German will need to beat “four or five” Premier League clubs to his signature.

With contract negotiations seemingly beyond salvation, it would appear as though Emre Can will leave the club this summer and Klopp will look to fill the void left by the German by signing a new defensive midfielder.

This would be in addition to the signing of Naby Keita who is set to arrive at the club on the 1st of July for up to £59 million. The Guinean, however, is not a defensive midfielder despite being compared to Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

As the Liverpool ECHO reports, the Reds could challenge “four or five” Premier League clubs in the race to sign Jorginho.

Ian Doyle writes for the ECHO: “Jorginho is being monitored by the Reds’ recruitment team having been in outstanding form during the past few seasons in Serie A.”

After Napoli drew 2-2 against Torino this weekend, Jorginho was in tears. The Italian side needed a win to keep their title hopes alive.

The Brazilian-born Italian’s agent Joao Santos says that his client could leave Naples after four years with the club and “claims Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and at least one other Premier League club are pondering a summer offer.

“He’s been at Napoli for more than four years, his son is Neapolitan,” Santos told CalcioNapoli24.

“He felt he could give something to the Neapolitan people. He cried after the draw, but they weren’t tears of joy. He hoped to do something for the Napoli fans.

“His future? He’s a professional, he gave everything for Napoli, he feels Neapolitan in every sense. It’s a difficult time for him, everyone expected more than second place.

“A Manchester City bid for Jorginho? Everyone knows there are four or five Premier League clubs who want Jorginho.”

Santos continued: “Jorginho still has two years left on his contract, and if Napoli want to sell him, he’ll just have to find an agreement with another team and then he’ll have to talk to us about it.

“A hypothetical renewal with an amended contract? We’ll have to wait until the end of the season to talk to Napoli. Anything can happen in football.”

Although there are more pressing matters to attend to with a Champions League final weeks away, it’s certainly exciting to be linked with players like Jorginho and bodes well ahead of next season.
